Delivering a Container Handler to Ghana

At PHL we love a challenge – and challenges don’t come much bigger than delivering a Kalmar Container Handler to a customer in Ghana! The logistics of moving such a large machine are complex and require careful planning and the granting of very specific permissions. Fortunately, at PHL this is all in a day’s work for us.

This particular special delivery started off in our Basingstoke headquarters on 28th June, 2018. The lorry we used to transport the Container Handler to the dock weighed roughly 130 tons, so we needed special licences and an “abnormal load” transport order to go on the road. We arranged for some roads to be temporarily closed to manoeuvre the machine and we occupied two lanes of the motorway during the drive to the docks. At the port, the machine was within 10 mm of the height of the door of the ship, so it was just about the biggest thing that the ship could take.

Within 16 days of the Container Handler leaving PHL, the delivery reached its destination: Tema Port, Ghana. The result was yet another happy customer:
